Zeatin Market Report Overview

The Zeatin market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.1% to reach USD 222.2 million by 2024 from 173.0 million in 2019. The increasing aging population driving demand for anti-aging products in the cosmetics industry and growing usage of Zeatin in Agriculture for Micropropagation and tissue culture is driving growth in the Zeatin market.

Zeatin market

Compounds that induce cell division in certain cultures of plant tissue have been termed cytokinins. Zeatin, the first substance of this type to be isolated from a plant extract, has been shown to be 6-(4-hydroxy-3-methylbut-trans-2-enyl) aminopurine.

Trans Zeatin refers to the naturally occurring cytokinin plant growth regulator that is used in plant tissue culture to induce shoot formation and cell division. Trans Zeatin is used in plant cell culture in order to stimulate plant cell division and also to induce shoot formation.

Plants modify gene expression and physiological processes to overcome temporal and spatial variations in nitrogen availability. These modifications rely on complex root-shoot-root signaling networks which are triggered by cytokinin biosynthesis. In the shoots, the active form of the cytokinin trans-Zeatin plays a role in the integration of rapid gene regulation and long-term acclimation to heterogeneous NO3– supply.

The Zeatin market is also expected to be boosted by new production technologies which are further expected to reduce its manufacturing cost. A new production process has been developed which uses E. coli bacteria to treat leftover spent fry oil from restaurants in a bioreactor to produce trans – zeatin. This process uses a leftover product that restaurants usually dispose of to make a valuable product.

In terms of application, the Agriculture segment is estimated to be the largest segment during the forecast period

In terms of application, the global Zeatin market can be segregated into Cosmetics, Agriculture, and others. The Agriculture segment of the Zeatin market is projected to be the largest, on account of the rapid rise in demand for Zeatin across the globe in Agri-biotech, tissue culture and Micro-propagation. The cosmetics application is expected to be the fastest-growing segment in the forecast period. Zeatin is increasingly being used in anti-aging cosmetics products.

Plant Tissue Culture covers several techniques that utilize nutrient culture medium to grow and cultivate new plants specifically by using plant issues and plant cells. One of the prominent methods of plant tissue culture is micropropagation where zeatin is used. Micropropagation offers rapid vegetative propagation of plants under in vitro conditions of the controlled temperature, high light intensity, and a defined nutrient medium. The technique has been applied to several commercial vegetative propagated plant species. Plants can be propagated by sexual (through the generation of seeds) or asexual (through the multiplication of vegetative parts) methods

Tissue culture application has witnessed an increasing usage of Zeatin and the trend is expected to continue in the forecast period. Tissue culture allows exact replicas of plant matter to be produced. This means that plants with exceptional genes can be multiplied (excellent for food, flower, hemp, and other profitable crops). Mature plants develop quicker than traditional propagation methods.

Sometimes there are situations where seeds or pollinators are absent. For that, tissue culture can allow for the production of multiple uniform plants, without seeds or pollination. Tissue culture needs to be performed under sterile conditions, dramatically reducing the chance of disease, pathogens, and pests. Some plant species, such as Nepenthes and orchids, are difficult to grow from seed, and tissue culture can be a way to grow with plants with greater ease. Tissue culture can be used to preserve plant genetics, an essential technology with the threat of species extinction.

Zeatin also helps in protecting brain from proteinaceous deposits leading to the death of brain cells. It is found to naturally balance hormones in girls and women and is used by girls during puberty and by women in pregnancy. Moreover, escalating investments in R&D and government support across geographies is adding to the growth of the pharmaceutical industry and hence driving the overall demand for zeatin in the pharmaceutical sector.

North America is expected to be the largest segment in the forecast period

North America accounted for the largest share of the Zeatin market. The region is also projected to witness a higher product demand in the coming years on account of the increasing usage of Zeatin in Agri-Biotech, Micro-Propagation, and Tissue Culture Applications. Rising disposable income coupled with an increasing aging population and has also contributed for growth in antiaging products where Zeatin is used.
